Sweden Is Preparing for the End of the World

Sweden released a pamphlet this week telling its citizens how to prepare themselves for war. It is titled "If Crisis or War Comes." What isn't Sweden telling us?

A pamphlet of this nature hasn't been updated in the Scandinavian country since 1961, during the heat of the Cold War. Now, the government has deemed 2018 the year to be safe rather than sorry.

“Although Sweden is safer than many other countries, there are still threats to our security and independence,” the pamphlet reads. As The New York Times reports, Russia's aggressive actions in the area could qualify it as a threat. So could cyber attacks, terrorist attacks, or the fallout from climate change. There's even a section telling citizens how to weed through fake news.

Besides useful info on how to get clean water and find a bomb shelter-do you know how to do that?-the Swedish government suggested to stock up on food like tortillas, cheese spread, ravioli, hummus, and salmon balls (this is Sweden, after all). It's sound advice for all; everyone should have a stockpile of tortillas and spreadable cheese, for good snacking in the end times. Also on the list: rosehip soup (?), oat milk, and coffee.

Sweden hasn't fought a war since 1814; it stayed neutral in WWII. But if WWIII comes knocking, what with Trump over here and Putin over there and Kim Jong-un hanging around too, you can bet it'll be the end of the world as we know it. At least when it does, we'll know where all the spreadable cheese went.
