Those who’ve been spoiled by Ari Vatanen’s Climb Dance, with its cinematic clips of roostertails the size of a small county in the old dirt days, and by Ken Block’s hoontastic Climbkhana may be expecting big media events out of Volkswagen’s record-setting sprint up the mountain, but so far, they’ve been left in the cold, sipping their Coors Lights, snacking on pork rinds, and wondering just when VW is going to get around to releasing a dazzling video of Romain Dumas’s record run.

Well, now there’s a video, shot from a helicopter, with what’s clearly the onboard video’s audio track spliced in to give the clip a sense of auditory drama. And, yeah, The French Connection it ain’t, but to watch the way the car moves, with Dumas dipping the car from apex to apex, makes us anxious for the onboard video just to see how hard the Frenchman was working as the purpose-built electric Volkswagen zipped toward the top of the hill.

We assume that VW is holding the onboard video for some kind of fabulous release, but we’ve got no idea when that’s coming, so in the interim, check out this video and imagine Romain in his fire suit, doing devilishly Frankish things to the wheel during his 7:57.148 blast to the top of the 14,115-foot mountain.
