Suspect dies after officer-involved shooting during SWAT standoff in West El Paso

UPDATE: El Paso Police say the suspect involved in a SWAT standoff in West El Paso has died after an officer-involved shooting.

Police say two criminal investigations will be conducted by the Crimes Against Persons Unit of the El Paso Police Department and the Texas Rangers, while the El Paso Police Department Internal Affairs shooting review team will conduct an administrative investigation.

“These investigations are standard procedure whenever an El Paso Police Officer is involved in an officer-involved shooting. No officers were injured during the incident,” police said.

ORIGINAL: EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A shots fired call triggered a SWAT situation Thursday evening, April 11 in West El Paso, according to the El Paso Police Department (EPPD).

The call came in at around 6:53 p.m. and at least one person suspected of firing in the area is “contained,” EPPD’s Public Information Officer Sargent Robert Gomez said.

Gomez said that negotiation teams are trying to contact the suspect to end the situation peacefully.

Additionally, Escondido at Palmary Drive east and west is shut down until further notice.

There’s no danger to the public and no injuries were reported, Gomez said.

What let up to the shooting is unknown, as well as if other people were involved.
