SUV collides with Greyhound bus, catches fire in Millington

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Greyhound bus and SUV collided in Millington Friday morning, officials told WREG.

According to the Millington Fire Department, at around 5 a.m., an SUV and a charter bus got into an accident at Hwy 51 and Big Creek Church Road.

The SUV caught fire, but its driver was able to get out of the vehicle and was taken to the hospital.

The 15 passengers and one driver on the bus did not receive any major injuries. They are still on the scene waiting for another bus to come and pick them up.

Ms. Connie, a passenger on the bus says they had just started their trip to Chicago.

“We were heading towards Karmadale. A driver hit us before four and close to five and she did do the best she could but we sped out and the accident was very very horrific,” Connie said. “No more than about 35 to 40 minutes. “

The wreck damaged the bus’s windows, doors, and stairs.

“It was scary because it was also very dark,” Connie said.

Just last week, a Greyhound bus carrying dozens of passengers hit a guardrail on I-55 in West Memphis after the driver suffered a medical emergency. No passengers were hurt.

Greyhound has released the following statement,

Greyhound is aware of an incident that occurred early this morning in Millington, Tennessee when an SUV collided with a Greyhound Bus. No passengers were injured, and our driver suffered only a minor injury. The driver of the SUV was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, and we wish them a full recovery. A relief bus has been dispatched so the customers may continue on their journeys. As always, the safety of our passengers and drivers is our top priority.
