Last week, an unknown hacker broke into the servers of the U.S.-based stalkerware maker pcTattletale. The hacker then stole and leaked the company’s internal data. “This took a total of 15 minutes from reading the techcrunch article,” the hackers wrote in the defacement, referring to a recent TechCrunch article where we reported that pcTattletale was used to monitor several front desk check-in computers at Wyndham hotels across the United States.

Donald Trump's conviction on 34 felony counts might finally distract voters from thinking about what they don't like about Joe Biden.
Modern warfare is dominated by many thousands of ultra-cheap, ultra-fast drones that conduct robotic "suicide" missions to deliver explosives to enemy territory. Private companies have scrambled to develop tech to counter these unmanned aerial systems, but these solutions often aren’t sufficient, leaving the rifled soldier trying to hit these targets with their naked eye. ZeroMark wants to give those soldiers something better: a system that can be attached to nearly any infantry rifle in around 30 seconds, and that boosts the shooter’s probability of taking out those drones.
More automakers are equipping electric vehicles with 800-volt battery architecture to take advantage of more powerful DC chargers for faster charge times.

SpaceX’s massive Starship rocket could take to the skies for the fourth time on June 5, with the primary objective of evaluating the second stage’s reusable heat shield as the vehicle tries to safely reenter the atmosphere for the first time. CEO Elon Musk said on his social media platform X that "There are many tough issues to solve with this vehicle, but the biggest remaining problem is making a reusable orbital return heat shield, which has never been done before." One of the biggest issues, Musk suggested, is the vulnerability of the system overall: “we are not resilient to loss of a single tile in most places,” he said.

As factories and manufacturing facilities have gotten "smarter" through sensors, robotics and other connected technologies, this has created a potential treasure trove of data that can be mined for insights on bottlenecks and other areas for improvement. While big data analytics has for years been a mainstay of industries such as finance and logistics, it hasn't fully made its way into the manufacturing realm. This has created an untapped gold mine of insights, and more recently a nascent market for technologies designed both to capture and make sense of a vast array of manufacturing data.

Redpanda, the well-funded Kafka-compatible streaming data platform that competes with the likes of Confluent, on Thursday announced that it has acquired open source stream-processing platform Benthos. The two companies did not disclose the purchase price, but it's worth noting that Redpanda raised a $100 million Series C round a year ago that now allows it to make these kinds of moves. This marks Redpanda's second acquisition after acquiring CloudHut, which built a web-based user interface for streaming data platforms, in 2022.
