Suspects arrested in connection with Baton Rouge weekend shooting that left man dead

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Baton Rouge Police Department arrested a suspect in connection to the fatal shooting that happened on Washington Avenue on Saturday.

According to police, Travelle Burris, 19, and two juveniles were arrested in connection to the shooting.

Police believe the shooting’s motive was a robbery.

Burris was booked into the East Baton Rouge Prison on charges of first-degree murder, armed robbery and illegal use of a weapon, according to BRPD. The juveniles were booked into the EBR Juvenile Detention Center on the same charges.

On Feb. 10, the police responded to a shooting in the 2600 block of Washington Avenue that claimed the life of 18-year-old David Atkins and injured another, according to EMS officials.

Atkins has been identified as one of the juveniles who escaped the juvenile detention center in November 2023.
