Suspects in American tourist's killing go on trial in Greece

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Suspects in the Greek murder trial stemming from the fatal beating of 22-year-old American tourist Bakari Henderson have appeared in court for the opening of proceedings, but the session has been postponed until Sept. 27 due to procedural issues.

Court officials say six defendants charged with murder were in court Friday in the southern city of Patras, while three other defendants facing lesser charges were represented by their lawyers.

One Greek, seven Serbs and a British citizen of Serbian origin have been charged with taking part in the deadly assault on Herderson, of Austin, Texas, in July 2017 on the Greek island of Zakynthos.

The beating was recorded by a security camera at a bar in Zakynthos' popular Lagana resort.
