Suspected Los Angeles street race ends in massive crash ‘like Armageddon’

A suspected street race in Los Angeles ended in a driver who may have been intoxicated crashing into several parked vehicles, authorities said.

Police officers responded to reports of a collision involving street racing in the Reseda section of Los Angeles to find a scene of destruction after the drivers rammed into a number of parked cars.

Eight total vehicles were believed to have been damaged after the two likely racers lost control of their cars, with one of them first clipping a parked van.

A Los Angeles Police Department official said that two people were in critical condition and local reports said three were injured in total.

One driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after attempting to flee on foot, according to local reports, while the other driver was taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries.

Footage from the scene showed crumpled and battered cars, with one vehicle coming to rest on top off another. At least one vehicle had its hood completely crumpled back to reveal its engine, suggesting the force of impact was substantial.

Witnesses recounted watching the massive collision unfold, saying they were drawn from their homes by a sudden cacophony and then witnessed the widespread destruction that resulted, with damaged vehicles strewn across the street.

“We heard three loud bangs like explosions”, a woman named Diane Carpenter told ABC 7.

Another person who observed the aftermath said the scene “looked like Armageddon”.

“It sounded like a train crashed into the front of my crib,” Edward Ramirez told NBC Los Angeles. “I just hear a bang, but it kept going.”
