New Iberia vehicle crash led to discovery of homemade explosives, drugs, weapons

NEW IBERIA, La. (KLFY)– A vehicle crash near the Teche Motel in New Iberia led to the discovery of homemade explosive devices, drugs and weapons.

Authorities said 38-year-old Beau Broussard was the driver in a crash that took place just before 7 a.m., on Fontelieu Drive, right off East Main Street. According to Captain Leland Laseter of the New Iberia Police Department, the vehicle was found in a ditch, and firearms and narcotics were discovered in Broussard’s vehicle.

Broussard was arrested, and further investigation resulted in officers executing a search warrant for two rooms at the motel. Nothing was found in the motel, but the investigation led to another search warrant for two homes that were next door, with one of them belonging to Broussard, the suspect.

In one of the homes, authorities discovered what they suspected were some homemade explosive devices, which made them evacuate the occupants of the residences and themselves. Around 8 p.m., additional homemade explosive devices were found.
