Suspected DUI driver flees crash, spotted traveling in wrong direction in Colma

(KRON) – A suspected drunk driver was arrested after allegedly fleeing from an incident in the wrong lane, according to the Colma Police Department.

Around 8:44 p.m. on Saturday, Colma police officers noticed a Ford truck with two flat tires traveling in the wrong direction in the 1700 block of Hillside Boulevard. The officers attempted to conduct a traffic enforcement stop near Hillside Boulevard and Sand Hill Road. According to police, the driver did not initially yield until the intersection of Hillside Boulevard and Lawndale Boulevard, where the driver was still driving in the wrong direction.

The suspect was identified as 50-year-old South San Francisco resident James Gillanders. While police were detaining Gillanders, officers smelled alcohol. Police said the suspect displayed signs of being under the influence of alcohol.

According to the police investigation, the suspect was fleeing from a collision in the 1200 block of El Camino Real.

Gillanders was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, evading a peace officer and leaving the scene of a collision. According to police, Gillanders was issued a citation. The truck was towed.
