Suspect turns himself in after deadly hit-and-run at Platte Avenue and Academy Boulevard

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — On Monday, April 29, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) announced that a suspect had been identified and arrested in the deadly hit-and-run that happened just before 1:20 a.m. on Friday, April 26.

CSPD was called to the scene, where they found that a pedestrian riding a scooter east on Platte Avenue had been struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Platte and Academy Boulevard. The suspect left the scene, and the victim was pronounced dead by responding medical personnel.

Later that day, investigators identified a red Jeep Cherokee as the suspect vehicle and recovered it, along with other evidence when a search warrant was issued.

On Saturday, April 27, the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Andrew James Bjornstad, turned himself in and was booked into the El Paso County Jail. He is facing felony charges of Hit and Run involving death and Tampering with Evidence, along with two misdemeanor counts of failure to report accidents.
