Suspect in NYPD officer’s death had another weapon hidden inside his body: sources

FAR ROCKAWAY, Queens (PIX11) – A man accused of fatally shooting NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller had another weapon hidden inside his body, which was found after his arrest, police sources told PIX11 News on Tuesday.

Guy Rivera, 34, was the passenger in a gray SUV that Diller and another officer stopped in Queens around 5:50 p.m. on Monday for allegedly parking at a bus stop, according to the NYPD.

Diller told Rivera to get out of the vehicle, but Rivera allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the 31-year-old officer in the stomach below his bullet-proof vest, according to authorities. Diller’s partner then shot Rivera in the back, police said.

Rivera remained hospitalized Tuesday night, with charges pending against him as officials determine where he will be arraigned, according to police sources.The second weapon was found inside Rivera’s body, according to police sources.

After getting a search warrant for the vehicle, police found another gun inside the glove compartment. Police sources sources told PIX11 News that the vehicle’s driver would likely face charges as well. Detectives believe the two men were looking around the area for a possible burglary before the traffic stop.

Diller, of Massapequa Park, was rushed to Jamaica hospital but could not be saved. He leaves behind a wife and young son.

GoFundMe page was started for Diller’s family. So far, it’s raised more than $130,000.
