Suspect from multi-hour standoff and CHP involved shooting in Sacramento arrested

(FOX40.COM) — The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said it has arrested the person who barricaded themselves into a south Sacramento residence after a shooting involving California Highway Patrol on Wednesday.

According to the sheriff’s office, 41-year-old Manuel Martinez was arrested on Friday with the help of the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office.

“[Sacramento County] detectives tracked Martinez into Yuba County, who was ultimately taken into custody [after] a vehicle stop in Coalinga,” Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said on X.

“Special thank you to the [Yuba County Sheriff’s Office] for their assistance. Martinez will be booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for attempted murder shortly,” the agency added.

On Wednesday, a California Highway Patrol officer pulled in front of a residence in south Sacramento and was shot at by someone who fled into a home on Southland Way, SCSO said. Deputies said Martinez then barricaded himself inside the residence.

Following an hourslong standoff that saw police use multiple tactics to contact Martinez, the sheriff’s office said the home that he ran into was found empty.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office posted an image to social media on Friday of Martinez accompanied by text that read, “Shooter in custody!”
