Indianapolis police make arrest in fatal Monday night shooting

Update: This article was updated April 2 with information about the deceased and person arrested.

One person is dead and police believed a suspect was barricaded in a home on the west side of Indianapolis.

The situation was ongoing into Monday evening, and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department asked residents to avoid the area around the 1300 block of Kappes Street.

Officers first responded to reports of shots fired in the neighborhood around 6 p.m. Monday. SWAT was dispatched shortly after.

Police found Dustin Wesley Soubeih, 39, with gunshot injuries outside a residence. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"We slowed things down in order to get search warrants for this particular residence we are focused on,” said IMPD Officer William Young. “We're not saying that the suspect is in there, but we did receive information he possibly could be in there.”

Officers were doing everything they could to take the suspect into custody or hear their side of the story, Young said Monday evening.

Late Monday police said in a news release that a search warrant at the residence did not locate the suspect but by early Tuesday an arrest was announced.

Jerry Fallen, 63, was taken into custody early Tuesday in the 1000 block of North Traub Avenue.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to dial 317-327-3475 to speak with IMPD detectives.
