Suspect in March 25 assault arrested in Holland after weeks-long search

Nearly seven years since the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said it would add body cameras, the department still doesn’t have the technology nor dashcams on deputies’ cruisers.

HOLLAND — The suspect in a March 25 assault in Holland Township was found and arrested in the city of Holland Friday, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Xavier Rose, 19, of Holland, was taken into custody by a team of officials from several departments around 11 a.m. Friday, April 14. Officers from the U.S. Marshals West Michigan Fugitive Task Force, Michigan State Police and Grand Rapids Police Department were involved in the arrest.

Rose is currently lodged at the Ottawa County Jail. Official charges will be announced after his arraignment.

The arrest stems from an incident that took place in an apartment complex off 136th Avenue in Holland Township on Saturday, March 25. Deputies were called to the scene after an 18-year-old woman escaped the apartment and contacted police.

The woman told police she’d been in a domestic relationship with Rose and was assaulted, and said Rose was armed with a knife and a firearm. The suspect fled prior to deputies arriving and took an 18-month-old child with him. Investigators located the child, who was unharmed, with family of Rose and reunited her with her mother.

Since that time, warrants for Rose’s arrest were obtained and multiple law enforcement agencies have been searching for him.
