Suspect on the lam in 2017 love triangle slaying hauled back to NYC: sources

A long-sought suspect in a 2017 love triangle slaying was nabbed and extradited back to New York Thursday, police sources said.

Lee Almonte, 34, was first spotted in the background of a photo taken in California and posted to Instagram in May, sources said.

Police targeted Almonte in January 2018, identifying him as a prime suspect in the Dec. 3, 2017 gunshot death of Yadel Garcia, 27.

Almonte allegedly opened fire on Garcia, blasting him multiple times on Broadway and W. 175th St., about a mile from his Manhattan home. Garcia was rushed to NY-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center, but he couldn’t be saved.

Garcia and Almonte were both romantically involved with the same woman, police sources said at the time.

Cops, along with Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Fugitive Task Force, were able to track down Almonte in Los Angeles in May, sources said.

Almonte was extradited from Los Angeles to Kennedy Airport on Thursday, and then taken to the 33rd Precinct Stationhouse in Washington Heights, sources said.

He’s being held at the Otis Bantum Correction Center at Rikers Island pending his next court date, Department of Correction records show.
