Suspect killed, officers injured during arrest in Logan

Update, 5/16/24: The deceased suspect has been identified as Adam Scott Phillips, 33, of Layton.

The Logan Police Department said Phillips was the subject of an Internet Crimes Against Children investigation.

An undercover officer, posing as an underage girl, had been communicating with Phillips and had arranged to meet at the location of Wednesday’s incident, police said.

ORIGINAL STORY: LOGAN, Utah (ABC4) — Two officers were injured and a suspect was killed when officers attempted to arrest a man in Logan on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Logan Police Department.

According to police, detectives with Logan police made contact with a man during an investigation and attempted to arrest him. The man reportedly “produced a firearm” after beginning to resist arrest and fired at officers at a close range, police said.

After the man shot at officers, one officer returned fire.

“Despite immediate life-saving efforts by officers on scene the individual was pronounced dead by medical personnel,” police said in a press release.

Two officers with Logan PD received non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment. They have since been released, according to police.

The incident is now under investigation by the Northern Utah Critical Incident Protocol Team. After the investigation is complete, the Cache County Attorney will publish an analysis.

“The involved officer has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal review of the incident,” Logan police said in the release.
