Suspect in Independence deadly shooting facing more charges

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A new indictment lengthens the list of charges against the man suspected of shooting and killing a police officer and court process server.

A grand jury indicted 69-year-old Larry Acree of 12 new charges, bringing the total number of accusations against him to 18.

The new charges from Friday are six counts of armed criminal action and six counts of assault of attempted assault.

It goes back to a shooting on Feb. 29. That’s when Jackson County Process Server Drexel Mack and one other person tried to evict someone from a home in Independence.

As they entered the house, shots rang out.

Mack died and so did Independence Police Officer Cody Allen.

Acree is accused of first-degree murder in their deaths.
