Hit-and-run, car theft suspect arrested on crimes in multiple cities

DENVER (KDVR) — A man who allegedly stole a car owned by Arapahoe County and was wanted in other jurisdictions, including Denver and Broomfield, was arrested on Tuesday.

Paris Shannon, 35, was wanted on counts of burglary, motor vehicle theft, stalking, domestic violence and harassment, according to the Broomfield Police Department. He was arrested on Tuesday afternoon in Broomfield, a day after authorities had been trying to take him into custody.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office said deputies established a perimeter Tuesday in the 8900 block of East Florida Avenue, where they were looking for a man who allegedly stole a parks and recreation car and crashed it into other vehicles. FOX31’s Alliyah Sims spoke to the department and was told the alleged theft happened at the Cheyenne-Arapaho Park, near the initial perimeter.

A neighbor who lived feet away from the park where the vehicle was allegedly stolen told Sims that the incident was “very scary.”

“I have seen those white pickup trucks,” the neighbor, who did not want to provide her name, told Sims. “I see about three of them, but I didn’t happen to see anything yesterday. It is kind of unnerving.

This is not the first time deputies tried to locate the suspect. Arapahoe County said deputies tracked the man to the same area on Monday but were unsuccessful in detaining him.

The sheriff’s office said they were unsuccessful a second time and could not initially locate the man on Tuesday, but there was no threat to the 8900 block of East Florida Avenue.

The neighbor said the park is “always full with little kids,” and said she’s keeping a lookout for the suspect, now in custody.

“It scared me, because I have never gotten anything like that here. I thought who is this, what is he up to, what is he going to do? I mean you don’t know.”

Suspect allegedly involved in Denver crash

According to deputies, the man was wanted for other crimes in Denver and Broomfield on a crash and violation of a protection order.

The department said the Denver crash happened at around 12:30 p.m. on Monday in the area of 22nd and Blake streets. Officers were called to a hit-and-run crash that involved two cars.
