Suspect in double homicide fatally shoots self during arrest, Sacramento officials say

(FOX40.COM) — The suspect in a Wednesday evening double homicide shot himself when law enforcement attempted to arrest him at a shopping area near Arden Way and Challenge Way on Thursday afternoon, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s office said.

The agency said the suspect, Ricky Hunter, 32, was taken to the hospital for medical treatment where he later died.

Two women were found dead in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Howe Avenue around 10:40 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to the sheriff’s department, law enforcement had been tracking the suspect for much of the day and located him inside a store.

The sheriff’s department said that instead of apprehending him in the store around others, they waited until he returned to his vehicle to initiate the arrest. The suspect then allegedly shot himself in the chest with a shotgun.

According to the sheriff’s office, no law enforcement fired their gun during the arrest.
