Suspect faces murder charge after shooting housemate in Tarpon Springs, police say

A man was arrested on a first-degree murder charge early Tuesday after he told officers he fatally shot his housemate in a Tarpon Springs home, police said.

Police received a call about 3 a.m. about a disturbance on the 1100 block of Clarissa Court, according to a news release from the Tarpon Springs Police Department. Officers found Luke R. Barker, 45, suffering from a gunshot wound inside the home.

Barker was taken to Advent Health North Pinellas, where he died shortly before 4 a.m.

Police arrested Richard Lewis after he told officers that he shot Barker. Property records show Barker owns the home.

Lewis, 54, was being held without bond in the Pinellas County Jail on Tuesday.

Police are still investigating to determine what circumstances led to the shooting.
