Suspect in custody after 2 individuals shot, killed in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. (WKRN) – A suspect is in custody after two individuals were shot and killed in Springfield Sunday afternoon, officials said.

According to the Springfield Police Department, officers were sent to the 1300 block of Pine Circle at approximately 2:22 p.m. on Sunday, March 10 to respond to “a complaint of a disturbance and a gunshot wound.”

Upon arrival, officers found two individuals of a parked car who appeared to have gunshot wounds.

Authorities reported one of the individuals, Deshawna Traughber, was pronounced dead. Meanwhile, the other victim, Nicole Lane, was provided emergency treatment at the scene but died from her injuries a short time later.

The suspect — identified as Monray Vontez Johnson of Nashville — was arrested for his connection to the shooting.

He is being held in the Robertson County Jail facing two counts of criminal homicide, according to the Springfield Police Department.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation. In a statement to News 2, authorities said, “it is not suspected that there is any further danger to the general public from this incident.”
