Suspect crashes vehicle into Red Bluff motel

An Oregon man who allegedly crashed his vehicle into the Red Bluff Inn and then ran away, was caught and is now behind bars, reported the Red Bluff Police Department.

Ryker K. Kay, 25, of Hood River, Ore., crashed a 2002 Chevy S-10 into two buildings at the inn around 3:27 p.m., May 9 on 99 Main St., Red Bluff, according to police.

Kay allegedly fled on foot after the crash, but was located by police officers several blocks north.

When officers attempted to take the suspect into custody, Kay reportedly resisted and kicked an officer in the process. Police canine Max was successfully deployed on the suspect in an effort to curtail any further injuries to Red Bluff officers, police reported.

Now in custody and handcuffed, Kay was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment and cleared of any possible injuries.

A 75-year-old Red Bluff resident who suffered minor injuries from flying debris when the pickup allegedly crashed into the buildings was also transported to a local hospital by ambulance for treatment of his minor injuries. He was treated and released.

Kay was arrested and booked into the Tehama County Jail on $100,000 bail and suspicion of felony driving under the influence with injury, felony hit and run/injury or death, and misdemeanor battery of peace officer and domestic battery.

During the ensuing investigation, officers learned Kay had been involved in a disturbance with a female victim in the parking lot of the Red Bluff River Park. At some point in the disturbance, he reportedly got into his pickup and drove recklessly out of the parking lot and across Main Street where he allegedly lost control and collided with the Red Bluff Inn, possibly due to the level of his intoxication.
