He’s accused of using accelerant to light the home in the city’s Edgewater neighborhood on fire just after 2 a.m. on Saturday, April 20.

The residents, a young couple and their 7-month-old son who were asleep inside, narrowly escaped by jumping from a second-level rooftop, FOX 8 News reported. Their dog perished, but their cat was later found alive.

Man charged with attempted murder in stabbing

At least two suspects were seen on surveillance footage at the home the night prior trying to light the porch on fire, but they were unsuccessful. Investigators told FOX 8 News they’re considering that the suspects were seeking revenge for a previous dispute.

The fire spread to nearby homes and vehicles, causing about $700,000 in damage, according to investigators. The house was deemed a total loss.

As of Wednesday morning, a GoFundMe established for the family had raised more than $60,000.
