Suspect arrested in Florissant rape case

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A St. Louis County man is in custody for a rape that happened this past weekend in Florissant.

According to the Florissant Police Department’s probable cause statement, the rape occurred around 10:30 p.m. on March 23 in a vacant lot in the 1100 block of Patterson Road.

Police claim Albert Thomas (age not provided) sexually attacked the victim.

The victim did not know Thomas all that well, police said. They’d previously met on Facebook and then met in person on one other occasion.

On March 23, they met in person again at the Hanley Metro Station and took a bus to a home in the 1600 block of Patterson Road. Thomas’ mother occupies the home and he occasionally stays there.

Thomas’ mother told them to leave. Police claim Thomas took the victim to a nearby field on Patterson, beat her while forcibly undressing her, and then raped her.

Following the attack, the victim attempted to flee, but Thomas choked her to near unconsciousness. The victim eventually got away and found a stranger to help her contact the police.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Thomas with first-degree rape. Thomas has been jailed on a $500,000 cash-only bond.
