Suspect arrested in connection with 2023 Eunice shooting

EUNICE, La. (KLFY) — A person has been arrested in connection with a shooting in Eunice last May, authorities said.

Louis Daniel Jones, 20, of Eunice, is charged with five counts of attempted second degree murder in connection with a shooting that left one person wounded.

Eunice Police responded to a report of multiple gunshots in the area of East Maple Ave. and Hwy 13 South on May 14, 2023. One man sitting in his truck was hit and sustained minor injuries. Bullets also hit a residence at 200 East Maple Avenue, which people were occupying at the time. No one inside the residence was injured. A total of five victims and three suspects were involved.

Eunice Police received a tip Monday that a wanted person, identified as Jones, was near a local business establishment. Upon officers’ arrival, Jones attempted to evade officers by running away. After a brief pursuit, Jones was taken into custody.

In addition to the attempted murder charges, Jones has been charged with the following in relation to his arrest: resisting an officer, possession with intent to deliver Schedule I drugs less than 2 1/2 pounds, transactions involving proceeds from drugs, possession of a firearm in the presence of drugs, prohibited acts and possession of machine gun.

Jones is the second arrest made by Eunice Police in this incident. A 15-year-old juvenile was arrested a week after the incident and charged with five counts of attempted second degree murder.

Bond details for Jones were not released.
