Suspect arrested in 2014 death of woman in Southwest Albuquerque

Mar. 7—After being on the run for more than nine years, a suspect in the killing of a woman in Southwest Albuquerque was arrested in Mexico.

Jesus Alberto Chacon Morales, 36, is facing charges including an open count of murder, aggravated burglary, kidnapping, aggravated battery, child abuse, tampering with evidence, false imprisonment and conspiracy in the killing of Idali Reyes in 2014.

On Christmas Eve, Reyes was found dead with signs of trauma near Goff and Harzman SW, Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Jayme Fuller said in a news release.

Jose Lopez and Juan Solis, co-suspects in the case, were arrested shortly after the homicide. Chacon Morales fled to Mexico the day after the crime, she said.

A provisional arrest warrant was issued, requesting his arrest and extradition, Fuller said.

"Through the persistent efforts of law enforcement and the cooperation of international authorities, Chacon Morales was located and extradited back to Albuquerque by the U.S. Marshals on (Wednesday)," Fuller said. BCSO deputies took custody of Chacon Morales.

Reyes' family has been informed about the arrest, Fuller said.
