Police said the vehicle was left running while the car’s owner was putting air in the tires. A security officer attempted to stop the suspect, but the suspect drove off and dragged the officer between 100 and 200 feet, according to the South Jordan Police Department.

Police said that, after being dragged, the security officer was seriously injured.

The suspect continued driving in the wrong direction — traveling west in eastbound lanes on Daybreak Parkway — before they crashed into another vehicle at an intersection, police said. There were no injuries reported in the crash.

The security officer who was injured was transported by Life Flight helicopter, but the extent of his injuries are unknown. The condition of the injured officer is also unknown.

The suspect was taken into custody after police said bystanders helped restrain him.
