Susan Sarandon Got a Sweet Deal on Her New Brooklyn Apartment
Susan Sarandon, already a New York City home-owner with places in Chelsea and the Village, has purchased again, this time taking advantage of the sweet real estate deals (and low interest rates) abounding in this economic time. She's bought, reports the New York Observer, a new apartment for a relatively non-celebrity-price... less than a million, even!

Street Easy lists the seller of 334 Grand Avenue, #2, as Daniel Simmons, brother of Russell and Run DMC's Rev Run, an abstract expressionist painter and producer of Def Poetry Jam. According to the site, Sarandon paid $900,000 for the 2-bedroom, two-bath, 2,500-square-foot condo featuring six rooms, plus skylights, a working fireplace, 12-foot ceilings, central air, and a two-car garage. The building, listed by Corcoran agent Toni Martin, features a 2,000-foot roof deck and an alarm system. Heating is included in the common charges.

Street Easy also reveals that since 2006, the apartment's price has fallen from $1,250,000 to, in 2009, $950,000. In March of 2011 it was listed at $1,069,000, dropped to $999,000 in June, and then again in August to $950,000. Good things come to those who wait, apparently. (Sarandon's monthly mortgage plus maintenance payment is estimated at $3,981—presuming, of course, that she didn't do the all-cash thing.)

What she'll actually use the property for remains to be seen, but back in the 1800s, captains of industry kept their summer homes in Clinton Hill rather than the Hamptons. Trend watch? At any rate, Brooklyn is clearly the new/old something.
