Survey finds Kingsport businesses willing to commit to recycling

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) – A vast majority of Kingsport businesses surveyed by the Kingsport Chamber would be willing to commit to recycling efforts, Keep Kingsport Beautiful announced Tuesday.

The chamber conducted the survey to “gauge business interest in recycling,” Keep Kingsport Beautiful stated in a news release.

According to Keep Kingsport Beautiful, 92.8% of Kingsport businesses polled by the chamber said they would commit to recycling both plastics and cardboard with the organization. The recycling commitment would be in support of Eastman and Domtar’s local recycling efforts.

Additionally, 90.1% of the businesses surveyed said they would display a sign or sticker marking them as a recycling partner of the organization and Eastman and Domtar.

The survey also found 88.2% of businesses would be willing to display bins for customers and employees to drop recyclables, and 77% said they would be up to the task of periodically taking their recyclables to Kingsport’s drop-off locations.

The survey follows Eastman and Food City’s March unveiling of recycling bins throughout Kingsport.

Sharon Hayes, senior director of Keep Kingsport Beautiful, stated in the release that the survey is a good indicator of local business’s commitment to their community.

“We want to thank all the businesses and organizations that participated in the survey,” said Hayes. “I think the results send a clear message that this community wants to do what’s best for our environment.”
