In surprise move, woman charged in lover's slaying in Arizona testifies in murder trial
PHOENIX - A woman charged in the stabbing and shooting death of her lover is set to continue testifying at her Phoenix murder trial.
Jodi Arias first took the stand Monday in a case that has been peppered with lurid stories of sex, lies, betrayal and violence.
The 32-year-old could face the death penalty if convicted.
She is set to continue testifying Tuesday after telling jurors how she endured an abusive childhood at the hands of her parents and planned to commit suicide after she killed her on-again, off-again boyfriend.
Arias claims she killed Travis Alexander in self-defence in June 2008 at his suburban Phoenix home.
Prosecutors say she stabbed and slashed him nearly 30 times, slit his throat and shot him in the head in a fit of jealous rage.
