New support group for veterans with mood disorders

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A new Veterans Support Group is being launched by the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA), a non-profit organization whose goal is to support, educate, and provide resources for active duty and retired service members who deal with mood disorders.

Starting on March 26, the support group will be held every Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Hillside Community Center at 925 South Institute Street. The aim is to provide a safe and understanding environment for active duty and retired service members to share their experiences.

The group is confidential and peer-led. A local veteran will facilitate the group, assisting members in connecting and learning from each other’s struggles and triumphs.

“Having dealt with lifelong depression, and attempting therapy and medication in the past, I can confidently say that attending DBSA support groups has had the greatest impact on my health both mentally and physically,” said Tyler Helton, the Veterans Support Group Peer Facilitator.

Active duty and retired service members are encouraged to take part in these meetings. No registration is required and there is no cost. Attendees can simply show up. For more information, email dbsacolospgs@gmail.com.

“In honor of our active duty and retired military veterans, DBSA Colorado Springs proudly introduces a special support group tailored specifically for the brave individuals who have served our country while courageously managing depression, bipolar disorder, and other mood disorders,” said Marissa Valdez, DBSA Colorado Springs Board President.
