Supergirl Season 2 adds Lynda Carter

‘Wonder Woman’ star Lynda Carter has landed a role in ‘Supergirl’.

According to Variety, the 64-year-old actress, who starred as ‘Wonder Woman’ in the hit 1970s TV show, will be joining the upcoming Season 2 of ‘Supergirl’… as the US President.

“Lynda Carter, who starred in the ’70s ‘Wonder Woman’ television series, has been cast in a recurring role in the upcoming season of the CW’s ‘Supergirl’,” they revealed. “Carter is set to play the President of the United States.”

And her first appearance comes in Episode 3 of Season 2.

Of course, Lynda Carter played Wonder Woman between 1975 and 1979… and has become renowned for the iconic TV show, which is one of the first to feature a female superhero.

And it looks as though this casting news has been on the cards for some time.

‘Supergirl’ producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg explained back last year that Lynda Carter was their dream casting for the role of President of the United States. In fact, they wanted her to appear during ‘Supergirl’s first season… but noted that it just didn’t work out.

“We’re going to do it, we’ll just do it next year,” said Kreisberg.

But while Lynda Carter’s schedule wouldn’t allow for a Season 1 appearance, it looks as though she’s now in line to join the cast for Season 2 – the show’s first season at their new home on American network, The CW.

Of course, this won’t be the first time that Lynda Carter has appeared on a DC TV show since her run as ‘Wonder Woman’. In fact, she also appeared in an episode of ‘Smallville’ back in 2007.

But Lynda Carter as a US President? That strikes me as impeccable casting.

Obviously, she’s renowned for the role of Wonder Woman – one of the strongest female heroes in television history. Installing her as the leader of the free world just makes a whole lot of sense. After all, the US is yet to get a female President… and with Hilary Clinton in the running, this couldn’t come at a more apt time.

And let’s face it – Carter will knock this out of the park.

‘Supergirl’ stars Melissa Benoist as the titular hero, with Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers, David Harewood as the Martian Manhunter and Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant.

Recent high-profile casting announcements include Lynda Carter as the President of the United States, and ‘Teen Wolf’ star, Tyler Hoechlin as Superman.

‘Supergirl’ returns to our screens later this year.
