Super Tuesday kicks off in the Virginia for Presidential Primary Elections

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The polls are open across the Commonwealth and many are getting ready to cast their ballots in the 2024 Primary Election.

March 5 marks Super Tuesday, where multiple states open their polls to hold the presidential primary contests. The days are also pivotal in determining the candidates who will face off in November to be the President of the United States.

One Roanoke resident told WFXR that voting is important even when it may feel like you are just one vote.

“For this, I feel very passionate about it, so it was important for me to come out and express myself in this way, beyond the letters that I write and the visits I make to the congressional office” explained William H-Doubler.

Andrew Cochran, the Director of Election for Roanoke told WFXR that nearly 700 people voted in person. He says over 1,300 votes by mail and another 1,258 ballots have not been sent back in yet.

Where can I vote?

Voting centers close at 7 p.m. however, election officials say if you are on the line at 7 p.m. you will still be allowed to vote.
