SUNY board authorizes superstorm tuition refunds
SUNY authorizes campus presidents to refund tuition to students withdrawing because of Sandy
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- The State University of New York Board of Trustees has adopted a resolution authorizing campus presidents to refund tuition to students forced to withdraw because of Superstorm Sandy.
SUNY says college presidents in the state system can waive tuition liability and make refunds to students withdrawing from either or both Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 terms because of hardships associated with the storm, which flooded parts of Long Island and New York City and damaged homes and businesses.
State University regulations provide for "hardship" withdrawals and refunds usually only before the midpoint of an academic term.
The storm hit New York at the end of October, after the midpoint of the fall term.
