Sununu: ‘Donald Trump is Wrong’

In a sometimes contentious interview Wednesday, former New Hampshire Gov. John H. Sununu, a supporter of Mitt Romney, tried to change the subject to jobs, blamed CNN for a birther “fixation,” and finally, after repeated evasions, declared Donald Trump wrong about President Obama’s citizenship.

“Donald trump is wrong,” he said on CNN’s Starting Point. “The president was born in the United States.”

Remarked host Soledad O’Brien: “That I think might be the first time, well thanks.”

“No it isn't, ma’m, no it isn't!” bellowed Sununu, jabbing his finger. “It’s just because you don’t read enough that you don’t understand that.”

“There’s no need to get into personal attacks,” O’Brien replied. “There’s no need.”

Romney has said that he believes the president was born in the United States, but with respect to Trump, who continues to question the president's citizenship, has said only that he does not agree with some supporters on certain issues. Romney and Trump appeared together at a fundraiser in Las Vegas on Tuesday.
