Sunset seat-belt stop leads to drug, gun charges

SUNSET, La. (KLFY) — A traffic stop for driving without a seat belt led to two arrests on multiple charges, authorities said.

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrested two men Wednesday night as a result of a traffic stop on I-49 North Service Road near Sunset.

Tyreke Henry, 22, of Arnaudville, the driver of the vehicle, had an outstanding arrest warrant for domestic abuse battery on a pregnant victim issued on June 16, 2022. Raheim Charles, 24, of Lafayette, was the front seat passenger.

Officials said the stop led to a search of the vehicle which found a backpack containing a 300 Blackout AR platform pistol. Detectives also located four additional magazines in the vehicle and a digital scale.

Upon returning to the Sheriff’s Office to process the backpack into evidence, detectives found a compartment inside the backpack which contained nearly one ounce of crystal methamphetamine, authorities said.
