Sunny skies & highs in the 80’s to end the week for the Big Country

ABILENE, Texas (BCH Weather) – The start of the week was quite busy, with severe storms on Monday and cooler temperatures on Tuesday and into Wednesday morning. Now that the cold air behind the front has left the area, the Big Country will have beautiful weather to finish off the first week of April.

That is because an upper-level ridge will approach our area from the west on Thursday and then move across the region on Friday. Temperatures will warm into the mid-80s on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

There will be plenty of sunshine across the next several days, and light southwesterly winds will return tomorrow. However, as you know, gusty winds don’t stay away too long around here.

ECLIPSE WEATHER: Abilene forecasts predict gloomy conditions ahead of solar eclipse

Winds will increase on Friday, with gusts up to 25 miles per hour. Saturday will be the strongest, with gusts up to 40 miles per hour. Winds will weaken slightly Sunday, with gusts down to 30 miles per hour.

Speaking of the weekend, we are looking at our next potential for severe weather on Saturday evening. A strong upper-level low pressure over the western U.S. will eject eastward across the Rockies and into the Plains this weekend.

An associated Pacific front is forecast to sweep across the area Saturday afternoon. By late afternoon, showers and thunderstorms may develop along an eastward-advancing dry line, similar to the last severe weather setup.

Above is the Day 4 Severe Weather Outlook, valid for this Saturday. Yesterday’s outlook was located back to the west and a little further south, including portions of the Big Country.

While there is some potential for strong to perhaps severe storms, questions on instability and overall dynamics remain. Any storms should exit the area overnight as the Pacific front moves
through.

The location, storm potential, and timing will become more accurate as we near the weekend. Sunday will feature mild temperatures and sunny skies.

For now, enjoy the pleasant weather over the next few days. It will be a good time for outdoor activities before the winds increase this weekend.
