Sunbury man faces corruption of minors charge

Apr. 12—SUNBURY — A Sunbury man faces felony charges of corruption of minors after city police say he inappropriately touched a 15-year-old girl.

Nicholas Schindler, 39, of Chestnut Street, also faces a misdemeanor charge of indecent assault after Sunbury police said they were informed of the alleged incident in February. He is being held on $150,000 cash bail.

Officers said they received a child welfare report from Northumberland County Children and Youth on Feb. 21 alleging Schindler touched a minor inappropriately.

The report was originally investigated by Selinsgrove police and a Children's Advocacy Center forensic interview was conducted in Sunbury, police said.

The alleged victim was 15. The girl told investigators she was visiting a friend on Chestnut Street and was sitting on a bed in a living room watching television when Schindler allegedly came in the room and sat next to her, police said.

Court documents report Schindler allegedly kept putting his hand on her thigh and repeatedly touched the girl. The alleged victim also said Schindler touched her under her pants at a Selinsgrove home in 2022, according to police

Selinsgrove and Sunbury police agreed Sunbury would take the investigation.

Schindler will appear before Sunbury District Judge Rachel Wiest Benner for a preliminary hearing at a later date.
