Summertime sizzle ahead as temperatures continue run into 80s

Tonight provides the risk for a stray shower or two over the mountains tonight, but most of us will be dry. Patchy fog is possible, with otherwise mostly clear skies and temperatures dropping back into the mid 50s.

Tuesday is a sunny and summer-like day, with hardly a cloud in the sky in most spots with high pressure in control and temperatures jumping back up into the low 80s. An isolated mountain shower or two is possible in the afternoon. Temperatures overnight will be milder with a southwest breeze in place, as we only drop back to around 60.

Wednesday once again will be dry for most, but with a southerly breeze cranking out ahead of our next storm system, isolated mountain showers are possible in what will be a very summer-like day with high temperatures in the low to mid 80s. A few western town spots will approach 90 degrees. By the overnight, a few showers will be expected with a cold front inching closer to the region. We’ll see temperatures dip back into the low 60s overnight.

Thursday features scattered showers and thunderstorms with our cold front crossing. It won’t rain all the time, but a few storms could produce brief heavy rainfall. With the clouds and storms around, high temperatures will dip back into the upper 70s to right around 80 degrees.

Friday sees continued chances for rain and storms, as our cold front stalls just to our south. With the front just to our south and a potential low pressure system riding along that front, more chances for storms will result with high temperatures in the mid 70s.

The forgotten history of Memorial Day

Saturday as we kick off Memorial Day weekend begins on an unsettled note and unfortunately, this pattern looks to stick around for a bit. Scattered showers and storms will be around, though not widespread in coverage, as another front slides into the area and then stalls. High temperatures will be in the upper 70s.

Sunday keeps the risk for a few scattered showers and storms, though it once again does not look to be a washout. It’s a summer-like day on the way with our stalled front lifting north as a warm front, which should enable high temperatures to jump back up into the low 80s.

Just a reminder: Using sunscreen cuts risk of skin cancer

Memorial Day will still provide the chance for scattered showers and storms, with our warm front sliding back down and stalling over the region. That will provide the lift needed for a few storms, though once again, this does not look to be a washout at this juncture with high temperatures in the upper 70s.

Looking ahead, it’s an unsettled pattern with a stalled frontal boundary see-sawing north and south near our region that will keep chances for storms around Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Like the Memorial Day holiday, this period does not look to be a washout but occasional showers and storms, which could produce locally heavy rainfall, can’t be ruled out. High temperatures will be in the upper 70s on Tuesday, mid 70s on Wednesday and in the low to mid 70s on Thursday.
