Summer 2024 is going to 'sizzle.' AccuWeather. See their forecast for New England.

The 2024 summer forecasts are rolling out.

The Farmer's Almanac says to expect this summer to be "sultry" and "soggy" in New England. NOAA's long-range forecast calls for it to be likely be "above-normal" with a 40-50% chance of more precipitation than normal.

And now AccuWeather released its long-range summer forecast, and they're calling for heat.

"Air conditioners will have their work cut out for them this summer as AccuWeather meteorologists say it is looking like a hot season" in the northeast - and around the whole country, their release said.

Here's a look at what they are forecasting for the Northeast.

What is AccuWeather calling for this summer?

From this June through August, Accuweather predicts:

  • Temperatures will be 3-4 degrees higher than average in New England.

  • Heavy rains in New England could relieve the heat in June and July, but noted that "drier weather could result in some of the hottest weather for the region in August."

  • Boston could see "three to four times as many 90-degree days this year compared to the five recorded in 2023."

What does the hurricane forecast 2024 look like?

AccuWeather stated this week that the northeast could have a very active hurricane season as a result of the predicted summer heat. An active hurricane season is predicted, fueled by the hot summer.

"All indications are pointing toward a very active Atlantic Hurricane season in 2024," AccuWeather Lead Hurricane Forecaster Alex DaSilva stated.

AccuWeather is predicting 20-25 named storms across the Atlantic in 2024, including eight to 12 hurricanes, some stronger than others.

What are some effects of this kind of summer weather?

AccuWeather stated that with the intense heat this summer, air-conditioners will be in high demand for consumers. That means if you don't have one now, it would be a good idea to get one.

The group also stated that with air conditioner use, electricity bills are bound to be high.

How does AccuWeather make long-range forecasts?

The group uses the latest in weather technology, with the group's work being "the result of many years of research, backed by great intellectual property and patents, a talented IT staff, and a team of more than 110 meteorologists," according to the AccuWeather website.
