Summary Box: Revel, Atlantic City's newest bet

NEW CASINO: Atlantic City's $2.4 billion Revel casino resort opened at sunrise Monday with a blueberry smoothie toast and a rush of eager gamblers.

THE BET: Revel is marketing itself as a lifestyle resort that just happens to offer gambling, in line with a global trend. When the project ran out of money during the recession and construction halted, Morgan Stanley backed out at a $1.2 billion loss. It took state tax incentives to finish the casino.

FIRST IN WINS BIG: Jerry Colonna of Mount Laurel, N.J., the casino's first customer, won $1,500 within 10 minutes. His appraisal? "This is going to turn Atlantic City around. That's obvious."
