Suburban man charged in suspected high-speed DUI crash that killed 17-year-old in Glenview

GLENVIEW, Ill. — Police in Glenview have charged a 21-year-old man in connection with a deadly two-vehicle crash Sunday that claimed the life of 17-year-old Marko Niketic.

Taeyoung Kim, of Northbrook, faces multiple counts of driving under the influence causing death, reckless homicide, aggravated driving under the influence causing great bodily harm, reckless driving and speeding following the late Sunday evening crash on May 12.

Glenview police say the crash occurred just before 11:10 p.m. on the 1200 block of East Lake Avenue. According to police, Kim drove his vehicle westbound on East Lake Avenue at “a high rate of speed in a reckless manner” and struck Niketic’s vehicle near the intersection of East Lake Avenue and Meadow Lane, splitting it in half.

The 17-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, but his girlfriend survived.

Kim is due in court on Saturday.

Funeral services for Niketic were held on Thursday.
