Study: Chesapeake has 7th highest percentage of fatal weekend crashes

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Chesapeake made the top 10 in a study for having some of the most dangerous roads on the weekend.

The new study done by injury lawyers at Bader Scott revealed that Chesapeake is ranked as the seventh worst place to drive in during the weekend. The study took data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for fatal crashes in each U.S. county.

Only those occurring on the weekend were considered in the study, and were compared to the total number of crashes. Only counties where at least 50 fatal crashes have happened between 2017 and 2021 were taken into account.

Chesapeake had 47 fatal crashes occur on the weekend, with the total being 87, making the percentage of weekend fatal crashes sit at 54.02%.

Pickaway, Ohio came in with the highest percentage of crashes occurring on weekends despite having the lowest total crashes out of the top ten.
