Students walk out of Wichita East High School to protest bill that bans gender transition surgery

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Students walked out of Wichita East High School Tuesday afternoon to protest a bill that bans gender transition surgery for children under 18 years old.

It also bans certain hormonal treatments.

Some students say this bill would cause more harm than good.

“Like this is not a necessity. This is actively going against children’s mental health, and I hope that that’s what they learn,” said Juan Garcia, a sophomore at Wichita East High School.

Governor Laura Kelly has not signed or vetoed the bill.
