Student-led organizations hold rally on UNLV campus due to tensions overseas

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) student-led groups protested in support of Palestinians on campus Tuesday.

The Tuesday protest came on the heels of others last week. The students attending shared their hope for peace, both in their demonstration and in the Middle East, calling for a ceasefire. Several student-led groups hosted the rally.

“Given what I heard about what is going on at all these campuses and eruptions going on in the news and media, we are here to make a difference,” first-year student Luis Jimenez said.

Organizers at the stage called on UNLV staff to disclose university finances and divest from any ties to Israel. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the military to begin operations in the southern Gaza city of Rafah.
