Strong storms, rainfall overwhelm North Texas
DALLAS (AP) — A strong storm system has deluged North Texas with up to 4 inches of rain, triggered flash-flood warnings and prompted a high-water rescue of five children.
Dallas police say emergency workers rescued five boys after they became trapped Thursday morning by rising waters along a creek. All five were taken to a hospital for evaluation. Authorities say the boys had skipped school and gathered along a creek.
Elsewhere, high winds destroyed a mobile home near Joshua, about 20 miles Fort Worth. Johnson County Emergency Management Coordinator Jamie Moore says a mother and child were injured.
Severe weather also moved into the northern Plains. The National Weather Service says quarter-size hail was reported 2 miles southeast of Harrisburg, South Dakota. And parts of Minnesota and Iowa were under a tornado watch.
