Mar. 5—The Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra will perform "String Spring Fling" at 4 p.m. March 17 at Hatfield Hall.

Violinist Elina Rubio will be a special guest for the concert. The afternoon show will last 75 to 80 minutes and will be performed without intermission.

The concert opens with an Irish reel-based composition, "Molly on the Shore." This is followed by, "And This is my Beloved" which is taken from Borodin's Nocturne, a feature piece for all the strings. Then a POLKA by the Strauss brothers — all pizzicato, or plucked.

After Rubio solos, she will join the violin section and participate in a hoe-down by Copland and then a piece for harp and strings featuring principal harpist, Melanie Mashner.

A special reception for VIP ticket holders follows the concert to mingle with the musicians. "String Spring Fling" is sponsored by Viribus Wealth Management and the Terre Haute Symphony League.
