Strictly Come Dancing star Gemma Atkinson has responded to rumours that she could appear on BBC One gameshow Gladiators.

Following the success of this year's revival of the hit '90s show, hosted by father-son duo Bradley and Barney Walsh, it was announced that a celebrity special is now in the works with some "amazing surprises in store for the fans".

Rumours have since been swirling about which celebs could make an appearance, with potential candidates including Gemma. However, the former Hollyoaks actor has now confirmed that "no chats" about her Gladiators debut have been had.

In response to a fan asking if she had been tipped to take part in the special, Gemma replied via her Instagram Story: "I heard about this little rumour! It was news to me [laughing emoji].

"No chats have been had. I loved the original show as a kid and I'm glad it's back for the next generation to watch, but I wouldn't put Gorks and Mia through the stress of trying to watch me climb that wall. Happy to sit it out and watch from home."

Gemma is engaged to Strictly Come Dancing pro Gorka Marquez, with the couple having first met while competing on the show in 2017.

They welcomed their daughter Mia in 2019, before welcoming a baby boy named Thiago in 2023.

Gemma shut down rumours that she and Gorka had split earlier this year, explaining that they often spend time away from each other due to their respective careers.

"It was actually my auntie who messaged me and said, 'Is everything okay?', and I was like 'Yeah, yeah, it's fine'. I get that people find it strange that we are apart a lot but that's how it's always been since we met," she said.

Strictly Come Dancing will return later this year on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

Tickets for Strictly's 2024 live arena tour are available now.
