Stray Rescue receives $1M gift to build new shelter in Dutchtown
ST. LOUIS – A $1 million gift will help Stray Rescue of St. Louis in the construction of its new shelter campus in south city.
Philanthropist Carol Epstein is credited with the donation.
“Our common love for animals can serve as a bridge to unite us all, which will ultimately help the community. The next generation represents the future of animal welfare, so it’s fitting the future of Stray Rescue will be named in honor of my great nephew and niece,” Epstein said. “They, along with other young animal advocates, represent the vision of what is possible when children at a young age are exposed to the joy of people and animals coming together to help, heal, learn, and love.”

The new campus is located on a four-acre plot in the Dutchtown neighborhood. Three buildings, totaling 120,000 square feet, will house a humane education center for children, low-cost veterinary services for the community, an expanded animal adoption center, a training center, and more.
The campus is expected to be completed in three to five years. Donations are still being accepted at StrayRescue.com/capital-campaign.
